This section presents examples of items which have been used in cognitive and affective testing.

Some of my best examples come from international mathematics tests.

For many years, going back all the way to the 1960s for example, maths and science teachers from many countries have shared an interest in developing tests designed to do a couple of basic things: (1) assess how capable students are when tested with very carefully-developed maths items, and (2), make it possible to compare test results among countries.

In the next topic I present the "FIMS" project, the First International Mathematics Study (1965).
